Story
Tofik Abdulgaziyev, a Crimean Tatar activist, was arrested by Russian authorities in March 2019 for alleged membership in Hizb ut-Tahrir and sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2022. His appeal was rejected in 2023, and his health has deteriorated significantly in prison, with a recent diagnosis of tuberculosis. Abdulgaziyev, a father of four, is among the many Crimean Tatars persecuted by Russia for their opposition to the annexation of Crimea and for their religious beliefs.
