Mohammed al-Ghamdi, arrested in June 2022, was sentenced to death in July 2023 for criticizing the Saudi government and advocating for the release of religious prisoners of conscience. His appeal was partially successful in September 2024, with the death sentence overturned but the case sent back for review. Al-Ghamdi’s health has worsened due to inadequate medical care in prison, including authorities denying him necessary mental health medications.
